According to this website David pronounces it to rhyme with bow (and arrow).

It's Cecil!!!

Oh no wait, that's another posting innit?

I pronounce it 'qzephenigan', if that's any help :-)

Replying as a more 'mature' ABer, when he first became famous we all said 'Bowie' as in cow, but it suddenly changed as the years went on.  The fact that he called his son Zowie pronounced in the same way also points to this ...  he was never supposed to be pronouced Zoe !!

I know for a fact that it is pronounced the same as number 2 because I have all of his dvds and on one of them he tells you how it is said and he hates it when somebody says the other one. Trust me I am one of his biggest fans and I know everything there is about him.

From what I've heard in interviews, he pronounces it to rhyme with bow. as in bow-and-arrow.  But, interestingly enough, he took his name from Jim Bowie, of Bowie knife fame, and Americans pronounce that as "boo-ee."  Go figure.

Personally, I always pronounced it to rhyme with cow, but my wife, who is american, kept correcting me, much to my annoyance and, now, I find myself also saying it to rhyme with bow (and arrow)....
i have always said Bowie and in cow. no idea if i am right or wrong. I just copied how my parents say it, i guess.
i meant 'as in cow' , not 'and in'!
On the b-side of the original band-aid single (with all the talkie bits), he introduces himself by pronouncing it as in bow (& arrow).
