Tinned beans instead of dried - what weight?

Another weight- related question from bushy!

I have a soup recipe that calls for 50g dried cannelini beans. I can't be bothered messing about soaking beans overnight so am going to buy tinned instead - what weight do you think I would need??

Just over 250g should be close enough.

Ive just checked a can of butter beans (normal baked beans can size) and the weight was 410gms and 235gms when drained.If that helps.

thanks - so if I buy a 400g tin and drain it that should be about right?

No you'll have to see how much the drained weight is then scoop out roughly what you need.

Counting Beans

One 15-ounce can of beans = one and one-half cups cooked beans, drained
One pound dry beans = six cups cooked beans, drained.
One pound dry beans = two cups dry beans.
One cup dry beans = three cups cooked beans, drained.

I've bought and drained a 400g tin which gives about 240g drained weight and it looks about the same amount as the picture in the cook book and seems a reasonable amount to split between four people so I'm going to go with it - not very scientific but its only soup! Thanks for the help :)
