my dad has just been persuaded on the phone, to switch his energy supplier to british gas dual fuel.
He is already a british gas customer, so i was surprised when he told me he had to give his bank account dteails over the phone.
He knows he shouldn't have done but he's elderly and not well - and not thinking straight!
We have rang british gas and they can't tell us if it's genuine until tomorrow morning. The bank can't do anything apart from close the account down completely.
Does anyone know it could be genuine? Has anyone done a similar thing?
Sounds like someone needs to take control of your father's finances if he gives his bank account details out to anyone who calls. I hope for his sake it was genuine.
Of course not being to offer what would be a common request when you are in the business, is a fault. It's a typical attitude today. As little service as one can get away with. Just so long as the profits come in. And in the case of banks not even that always it seems.
er... that's not quite what he asked! He told them what he had done and wondered if they could tell him if there had been any unusual activity on his account.
He knows he's been stupid, and can only wait until tomorrow.
