youtube - help!

I want to put a song by a well-known artist on Youtube (along with some basic images), yet on singing up I see it states:

Uploading materials that you do not own is a copyright violation and against the law. If you upload material you do not own, your account will be deleted.

Seems to me that there are zillions of clips/audio on Youtube posted by people who definitely don't own them, so why haven't they all had their accounts deleted? Or does this warning count for nothing?

They do get deleted or at least the video is removed. It takes time though as there are millions of videos on youtube.

I was politely asked to remove one of my videos because of copyright issues but they made it clear that there wasn't really a choice in the matter.

in this case, it's only audio - a song by a well-known singer - that i want to put on there. and there are masses of songs by famous singers on youtube which were clearly posted by amateurs.

It's up to you but it will get removed eventually.

It can depend on the artist/record company too.

Some are a lot more tolerant if their material being posted on youtube than others.
