keyboard problem

I am right-handed and a one-fingered typist. Occasionally the little finger of my right hand will accidentally touch a key, or more likely a selection of keys, on my keyboard and whichever paragraph I'm writing at the time will disappear completely. The rest of the paragraphs before or after will not be affected - just the one I'm writing on at the time. Does anyone know what the key or combination of keys that I'm touching is which makes this deletion happen, and is there anything I can do to prevent it (bar amputating my little finger)?

I'd take a guess at either shift and the up arrow or shift and the home key.
oh and if it's a laptop you might be touching the touchpad with the palm of your hand while pressing shift.
