wireless manager suddenly stopped working...any ideas?

on the front of my laptop (compaq presario F500, vista) is a small switch with an orange and blue light on...orange means off, blue on... however now it is orange at both ends, and the computer does not detect any local wireless networks...

when i go into control panel, and click on the wireless manager icon - nothing happens...its seems to be trying to go to it, the cursor changes...but then just stops, so i cant get to that page to chekc it out...

any idea why this could have happened and what i can do?

i have done a system restore but nothing chhanged

i am on it now with cable broadband
