can you listen to sport in the workplace my works says no my workplace says we cant have the afternoon of for the 23rd june of & cannot listen to the english game on the radio because of licencing laws whos right

We have been told that we can't have a radio in the offices which plays music because of performing rights licences - I guess the same thing might apply to sport.

Anyway, regardless of the licensing laws your employer has the right to expect you to work at work not listen to the football. Most good employers are flexible though.
I reckon it will be a 0-0 bore draw anyway.

i dont think it applies to sport as it applies to royalties to musicians

Yes you are right about performing rights for music, and nobody needs a radio licence these days. It could be that they just don't want you to have the radio on while you are working - and I see their point - and are using the licence argument as an excuse.

PRS which is one of the main 2 that chase workplaces for a licence to play music say on their website that a music licence is still required to have TV/radio from the world cup on but they are offering a free trial. That won't help if your employers are choosing not to let you for other reasons.
