Are you using a windows operating system? If so try the "add new hardware" wizard to locate the CD rom and install a driver for it - if windows hasn't got the right driver then you should be able to get the appropriate driver on the internet. If DOS then you should be able to get a generic DOS CD driver on the internet anyway. After you've got the CD ROM working you can re-install the CDRW easily.
