Can someone tell me the procedure for visiting the above and doing my own searching?
I’m looking for an ancestor who has a very common name and I’ve managed to narrow the search down to about 10/12 possibles. I’d like to look at all 12, but I don’t want to be paying for all the certificates, or asking the staff to do 12 searches etc. I simply need the information on the certificates, not the actual certificates.
Is it possible to visit there in person and look for myself?
Do I need to make an appointment?
I’ve tried calling them but the line seems to be permanently busy!
Thanks for reading.....

You should be able to contact the GRO online and email them to get a quote though they are not very quick in replying.
Are they all in the same RD or not? You don't have to buy every certificate if you are specific with your info and by ringing the district RD's they can probably confirm certain facts before you need to order the cert. but there is no way round it otherwise.
