Got about 2 grand to spend on a used car...I'd be grateful for any recommendations or ideas. I want to go for a diesel this time, a bit smaller (currently a Renault Scenic) but enough leg room for 2 pre teens. I don't use a car a lot, I mainly cycle to work but need it for shops, trips etc. Nothing too flash (I'd be lucky).. Cheers.

How about a Skoda Octavia, we have two of them in the family, excellent value for money, regularly get over 70 mpg on a run, about 57 mpg overall on average Hatchback or estate equally good. Go for the Elegance trim if you can, you then get air con. cd player etc. Just be careful that it has not been a taxi, as all the taxi firms love them.

thanks albags I love the car...mm..
and quizman I'd not thought of Skoda but thinking about it I've heard lots of good things from other people. I remember Skodas being so naff but apparantly not any more.
quizmans got it right- go for it- the estate has a very good sized boot if you need it.
