What size, price range?
Toyota's are prety good I hear.
For reliability I don't think you can beat Toyota - but the ball is in your court as regards their handling of the recent recall for sticky brakes - throttle etc.

I have had one for two years no problems at all. My ex-boss used to drive his 'banger' from Chelmsford to London every weekday and in nine years it only failed once with electrics - sorted same day and back next day.
I'd go with Toyota, i treat mine quite badly and it's never let me down (touch wood)

Most reliable car I ever had was a Peugot 205.............god it was boring.
I had a Micra for 15 years, I know you say you don't want one but I was a new driver and it did me very well. I've seen your other post and if you are only going to insurance TPFT then you might want to buy something second-hand as you won't be able to claim for any repairs to your own vehicle. I've got a Daihatsu Sirion at the moment, nice roomy little car, 1.3 engine - very pleased with it.
Yes .. as Prudie says a small Japanese .. but not cheap to maintain usually.
Polo does it for me. 1.4 much better than 1.0.
Cheapest to run is probably Fiesta.
Fiesta cheap to run and maintain
There's a black skyline for sale round the corner from me AlBags (private sale on a neighbour's verge) - just thought I'd tell you
If you don't do the miles Fords are cheap to service and insure. I would go for a Fiesta 3-4 years old with low miles. Make sure the service book is fully stamped.
My KA is on a 04 plate, has cost very little in repair bills so far! is cheap to tax and insure...............gets me from where I am to where I need to go with no problem!.....
If you can still get one...I had a Datsun 120y,1976/7, turquiose, four door with about 180,000 on the clock, never spent a more than £50 getting through MOT's(mostly tires and windscreen wipers) and it went and went and went most reliable car i ever had whatever the weather it would start (good old manual choke), until i gave to someone and they wrote it off (barstards), wish i still had it ( i doubt the kids would ask for as many lifts as they do if a had my trusty turquiose datsun they'd be to ashamed to get in it!!!)
Datsun 120Y ?

Moron
There are a few around Prudie.
Most have smaller engines tho ... like 2.0 and 2.5 with single turbo.
There are GT, GTS and GTR's.
GTR's are proper 4wd and twin turbos.
the cheapest car to have is your parents car - they normally fill it with fuel & have it serviced etc - can't get any cheaper than that.
good luck for Monday:
