There are plenty of law-abiding people who can not receive proper dental treatment, simply because of the huge cost involved.

Isn't the time now long overdue for a complete tightening up of this crazy compensation culture?

I never thought I'd say this, AOG, but for once, I agree with you. It'll cost him a couple of hundred to get this put right on the NHS. However much more it really costs, we'll have to subsidise anyway, so why pay him twice?

When I was a kid, a girl at school pushed me over and caused damage to my teeth that has meant years of NHS dental treatment. Should I sue her, d'you think?

I fell off my bike when I was 16, I was out for a ride with my friend and I caught my front wheel on his back wheel and went over the handlebars. Knocked one of my front teeth clean out. Should I have sued him, or the Highways Commission? Never crossed my mind!

This guy has already been in prison for 2.5 years that has cost the taxpayer £100K. He was originally awarded £66,400 damages for his toothache, reduced to £44,500 on appeal.

If the new Government is serious about cutting public expenditure it should have a referendum on the re-introduction of the death penalty for murderers such as this guy.

Let the public decide if they deserve to live to bleed us dry.

he compensation culture is a case of we get what we deserve.
the Tories many many years ago cut back on legal aid, too expensive they said, but the cry went out (rightly) how do the poor access justice?
The Tories (and I'm quoting from memory here), "we'll introduce a no win no fee system, like in America."
Another phrase from that era, "short termism", if the Tories want to reform litigious actions then they should admit they were wrong to alter it in the first place.
My solution would be to have fixed price injury claims, whiplash £1500+8 weeks loss of earnings etc, it's the lawyers who are making the real money out of these sort of cases overall.
