Washing machine problem

Hope someone has an idea on this. I have a top loading washing machine and during the rinsing cycle there is water which comes out of a hole at the back (i would have thought it would be like an overflow thing) I have a bucket to catch this water in, but sometimes it just trickles out slowly so doesn't go into the bucket but onto the floor. Any ideas what's wrong? The machine works well apart from this so don't really want to change it.

Without knowing what the hole is actually there for, cannot help.
