If anyone tries going out in a wheelchair for the first time they will be amazed at others reactions towards them. Why stare at people who are different from you (in your perception). What if a group of 'service users' goes to a restaurant and sits next to a table of noisy/raucous hen or stag-nighters - do you expect them to leave the restaurant early? Why should someone like poodi feel protective against other people when looking after her 'guys'? Some people have had a very sheltered life is all I can say.
I help out at a social club for adults with learning problems..it never ceases to amaze me how Joe Public i.e "normal" people are so stupid in their attitude to anyone different.. I had avery dear friend who was "disabled" I knew him for all my life.. he was ridiculed, tormented and on occaision beaten .he was avery caring loving man who died last year.. I hope one day people will change their attitudes to people like Eric xx
Elvis, I wouldn't have complained in the restaurant situation, or moved tables - that is just awful. However, I wouldn't choose to sit at a table near someone making a noise in the first place. Same with noisy kids, but I have to say I really think parents should make sure their kids aren't noisy in a restaurant situation. Obviously, people with learning difficulties are totally different. They are adults with problems and should be respected. As ttfn says, 'There but for the grace......................... '
