Is there any way that I can check my new mail, who it's from eg, without actually opening it? Everytime I click on "Inbox", after receiving a notification of new mail, it automanically opens.

What email system are you using? Outlook, Outlook Express, a web based one?

SB, I'm using OE and XP.
Why not just look at the inbox instead of clicking on it?

As far as I can see, I have to click on it to view it and that's when the new mail just opens.
When I get new mail, I just switch programs to Outlook Express and see who it's from. I don't click on anything unless I want to open it.

Obviously there is a difference in out set-up; however, Squarebear, thanks for responding.
If you download the FREE program called Mailwasher and install it you can even read incoming mail while it's still at the ISP web site. Then you can either accept it or delete it as required. Used it for about 10 years now with OE, Win98 and now XP.
(N.B. This is not an advert, just a helpful suggestion).
In Outlook Express ...
Switch off viewing (preview pane)
On incoming mail ...
Right-Click on the email/Properties/Details/Message source
It's ALL there.
