wireless suddenly not working...any ideas?

on the front of my laptop (compaq presario F500, vista) is a small switch with an orange and blue light on...orange means off, blue on... however now it is orange at both ends, and now the computer does not detect any local wireless networks at all...

when i go into control panel, and click on the wireless manager icon - nothing happens...its seems to be trying to go to it, the cursor changes...but then just stops, so i cant get to that page to check it out...

any idea why this could have happened and what i can do?

i have done a system restore but nothing changed

i reinstalled some drivers, linked to me on a previous question i asked on here, but they didn't do anything...

i have now completely restored to factory settings...but it still doesn't work - could this be a hardware issue, rather than software? what could have happened to it?

i am on it now but with my cable broadband.
