did you read the short article about ian mckellen and the bloke from '4 puffs and a piano'?

my mrs and i read the same article but threw the paper away soon after and have argued about what ian said

can you please give a resume of the conversation and what you believe ian meant??? the crux of it is that ian took umbrage at the word 'queer' and the yorkshire meaning - sorry if this is vague but i'm trying to be arbitrary

I read this.....apparently McKellan said that they shouldn't have called themselves poufs but they said that McKellen referred to homosexuals as queers; they in turn said this meant abnormal in Yorkshire so wasn't a term they liked.

thankyou craft - i do believe i got it wrong. i thought it was the other way around! thankyou for answering my question
You're welcome :-)
It was in next weeks Radio Times (3-9 July) page 23.
<"This isn't right calling yourself poofs", but I said "You come from Yorkshire like me and you call yourself queer. In Yorkshire that means there's something wrong. I don't want to be associated with with a word like that because theres nothing wrong with me. Poof is just a made up word">
