How many is there on a normal Sunday?
It could be the women hitting their drunken husbands....
What kind of mentality is beating your partner anyway?
Sometimes they need to be put in their place.... :-)
I would be curious to know how many incidents occur on a normal day, as I don't believe the football will have affected this and is just an easy newspaper story.

North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) dealt with 77 incidents in the aftermath of Sunday’s game, a rise of 127 per cent from 34 callouts after England’s previous match against Slovenia.

In total, paramedics were called out to 554 incidents in Lancashire and Cumbria from 2pm on Sunday to 2am on Monday, up from 442 for the same time period the week before.
Alcohol + Anger + Abusive person = More violence
Doesn't surprise me in the least - unfortunately. :-(
Violence is wrong in any situation never mind during after the World Cup.
reports from the esrc 10 years ago suggested that the figure was in the region of 1100 - 1500 per any given day in the uk so your figure seems low.

if the oppo is to get it out in the open and to provide help to sufferers, then its no bad thing. football is the topic of the day and such headlines will get all sorts focussing on the story/meaning, so maximum exposure = more spread of info. providing its not viewed as lightheated and jovial because of england losing that is.
