i bought an item on the internet
got the goods not suitable
asking for a refund
but in the meantime
i had to get a new visa card
will i still get the refund put on to my old card

Yes it will go to the old card. If it's the same issuer as the new one it should get transferred automatically.

However... we had to get a replacement for one of our mastercard credit cards and because the old one was stolen, it was reissued with a new long number across the front (althought still the same accoutn). We had a direct debit to that card and we had to set that up again. It depends whether your new card is just a renewal of the old one, or a reissue for some reason - you need to look at the small print just in case.
