What do you think of your age?
51 Answers
Why is it considered rude to ask someone their age?
why are people often ashamed of their age?
I'm 52 years old, I'm not proud of it, I'm not ashamed of it, I think I look my age, some have said I look younger, people generally don't tell you if you look older, but I'm not really bothered either way.
I don't understand all this secrecy surrounding peoples age.

For a start, my hair when i had it was amazingly curly, so it wouldn;t comb over anyway, but as soon as i knew it was going, I hit the Number One trail, and have walked that ever since - once a week.
I think people care far less about baldness now than ever before - I don't say I'm happy with it, but I certainly wouldn't go for fooling myself (and no-one else!) about what is going on up there.

I don't want to get old, I'm enjoying life to much, I don't feel my age and I'm reasonably fit. I think I have a young outlook on life still.
I work with nearly all younger girls between 17 and 35, I'm accepted as one of them and they include me with everything they discuss and do, generally speaking!!
I think the contrast with the very young staff and looking after the very old with dementia keeps me fairly well grounded and can see all aspects of life more clearly.

I'm unhappy about my age. I do look young for my age, perhaps that's why I keep my age to myself. People assume I'm about ten years younger, so I don't correct them.
I absolutely hate getting older, but like you say. . . it's better than death. :-)
I feel that's true about serving a sentence for a crime you didn't commit.

Hiya.
I am happy being 60 and I ain't ashamed of it! The old adage, 'you're as young as you feel' although a bit cringey, seems very true. I reckon that keeping interested in things and keeping up to date with new ideas can certainly have a bearing on the way one percieves ageing.
My 17 year old granddaughter tells people 'My nan likes to dance to trance' and I like that!
I agree that in some ways, we live in a youth culture but that doesn't bother me in the least.
I don't understand the secrecy surrounding people's ages either Ratter15! If I am ever asked, I tell 'em!
best wishes to all, Maz xx

It is personal information so not everyone wants to spread it around, nor do some feel happy when someone tries to make them feel bad about keeping it to themselves. It's a personal decision.
As for what I think of my age, not a lot. I'd rather not have the aches & pains, the feeling of rushing downhill towards my departure, I'd rather a return to sleeping well, feeling well, having some enthusiasm for something once again. When I was a nipper I thought I'd be good as an older person, but I find I don't take to it well at all. It's just a continual erosion of everything one was once able to take for granted. And no I don't feel happier because plenty of folk are worse off, even if they do grin their way through it.

Hey all!
I am 23, and guess I look it although I do sometimes still get asked for I.D for cigarettes!
I think I could say I am old for my age really, but then that is mainly to do with the fact that I have never been one for going out pubbing and clubbing all the time, the odd night out maybe. I'm much more of a home bird who loves cuddling up on the sofa with my OH or sitting in watching TV with my mum & stepdad!
I also think I have to be slightly older and mature these days then 'a normal 23 yr old' because there is a 16 yr age gap between me & my OH and he has 2 kids. So when we take them out I do the whole 'stepmum' kind of thing! :-)

Thanks for the opinion notafish although not everyone thinks so. Some find me too verbose.
As for my mind, well I'd be happier if it stopped the fairly recent habit of substituting a word I didn't want to say for the one I did. My conscious mind is sometimes horrified to hear what the subconscious processes opted to put into the sentence. Forces one to realise that the conscious mind is performing a management job at best, "say this thought", "ride this bike", "play this instrument", whatever, and the details are left to the subconscious.
