If you've just bought a new Astra Sport hatch, maybe looking in the owner's manual would be a good way of finding out, instead of inviting speculation from non-Astra Sport owners like me.  (Finding out before you bought it would seem to have been more sensible).

If you've got an auto, or semi-auto, gearbox it probably tells the computer to change gear at higher revs so that you can stick your boot down.  Oh, and it increases fuel consumption.

Its not the ejector seat is it ???
I would say a  sports 1.8 astra is probably an oxymoron, however the "sport" button generally means a lower ratio gear setting for better acceleration but lower top speed.
Think this has been answered by now but I was just imagining pressing the button and then being miraculously changed into shorts and tshirt....
gotta say cant believe you have bought a sport hatch sri without the dealer explaining the sport button.
i have the sxi without a sport button.. wanna swap :)
the sport switch alters the damping (suspension) to give a firmer ride, adjust steering response, and gear ratios to give a more sporty ride
