My hubby is having problems with his left knee and as he can't get to Drs until Monday at the earliest I wondered if anyone had any ideas what it might be.

He has pain around the knee cap and it is slightly swollen. If he bends it or keeps it straight for more than 1/2 an hour a severe pain shoots up his leg. Yet if he walks around it is okay.

He tried a support which made it worse and paracetamol is not helping.

Any suggestions please.

Yes....try Ibuprofen 600mgms which he could take three times a day if necessary.

Thanks Sqad. Do you know what could be causing this? Or is it just old age!
Could be many things Chick, but the two that spring immediately to the mind are:

1) Supra patellar bursitis......Google it
2) Osteo Arthritis.

He needs to see a Dr as it is important to clarify whether the knee joint is swollen or just the front of the kneecap..........very important.

Thanks again Sqad.
go to your a&e
Noooo quincy A&E is exactly that, emergencies, Chickadee sqad has given you excellent advice, hope he gets some relief from the pain soon.
quincyqqq - It is neither an accident nor an emergency - why go to A&E?

Chickadee - I hope that your husband gets the problem sorted. I tore the ligaments in my knee a few years back. It was very painful and inconvenient.
Quite right wolf, I broke my kneecap in two places and A&E were required (that's the only place the ambulance would take me) that was 1998 and it's sore everyday but I do know the reason.
