For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.To get x squared you need x times x so, (x ) (x ).
The only factors of 10 are 10 and 1 and, 5 and 2 so it now becomes (x 5) (x 2) since 10 and 1 cannot give 7.
For minus 7x you must have -5x and -2x and so it becomes (x - 5) (x - 2) which is the answer since -7 times -2 is +10.
Hope this helps and try the second one for yourself. I have the correct answer.

personally i think my answer is the easiest to follow, but only because that was my method ;)
formix - is our link correct ?
i followed it for the exciting second way of factorising and found an excellent thread - with ME all over it ! On Gaussian elimination which erm is not really useful for whatever jp needs...
The second equation, jp you have to juggle 6 x2 in a similar way,
(6x + )( x + ....) and try the factors of 12
12 and 1 and 6,2 and 3,4
in a similar way
and jp I REALLY think, you should be doing it yourself as we all clearly can do it, so it cant be hard....
AND we dont have Miss Kelly - [dan der an dan!] tomorroooooow!
goo luck
Gef's answer is only easy to solve if the factors are whole numbers.
As a general rule for any equation
ax(squared) + bx + c = 0
where a, b and c are any number the factors can always be found from the following equation
Factors =( -b +- square root of (b(squared)-4 times a times c)) divided by 2 times a
where +- means plus or minus to give the two different factors and if the bit inside the sqare root is negative then the equation cannot be solved.
PS This equation is difficult to write in text
