Do we really need digital radios?

It will mean all our analogue radios will be obsolete.

I have a top of the range digital radio and although I can receive some stations that are not on FM etc, I don't think the reception is as clear as FM. on some stations.

Then there is the problem with car radios, it is going to cost a fortune, to replace these.

the concept of 20 million car drivers being unable to listen to Five Live makes my heart grieve.

There are some facts here

Have you noticed how many digital radio channels have disappeared? There were loads I used to listen to but when I try to tune in now it says "station off air". What happened to them all - were they not commercially viable?
Yes, they were not commercially viable because no one could receive them. Something has to happen or it's a dead duck.

Digital packages of several channels can be packed into the same space as one analogue channel.
Best is a dedicated high-gain roof antenna, correctly aligned.
"Digital packages of several channels can be packed into the same space as one analogue channel. "
Yes, but they are packing them so tight that the quality is worse than AM in some cases. DAB is less about technology delivering diversity and quality, and more about government raking in licence money.
I have a Dab radio and it keeps losing its signal. Never had the problem with the non-digital type.
