after someones said to me "its like painting the forth bridge" and "shank,s pony" im interested to find any books which explain the meanings behind "aphorisms"...anyone any ideas please. thanks.
Expect you have found out -painting the forth bridge is a never ending thankless task,as when the painters got to the end of the bridge ( years later) it was time to start again. Shanks's pony = walking - your own legs ( shanks). I have noticed when people ask how I got somewhere and I say " Shanks's" they don't know what I mean! Old fashioned,like me, I guess.
