Our new dog, Coco, has very dry and flakey skin due to a flea infestation where she lost most of her coat. (this was before we got her) Is there anything we can give her to help with this condition - would bathing her with tea tree oil shampoo help do you think? I'm a bit reluctant to bath her in case the water dries her skin up even more. TIA x

get some advice from a vet
i give my dog some tinned oily fish a couple of times a week this improves the quality of his coat
My neighbour used to squeeze a capsule of evening primrose oil on to her little dogs food which helped, but as zzxxee says, it might be best to have a word with a vet.

Wow! that was quick - thank you. She's going to the vet's on Friday for a small op I'll ask them then x
My vet prescribed all sorts of shampoos and medicines for a rescued dog I once had. Nothing worked until she suggested sardines in oil. Aldi have the for under 40p. My present dogs eats them regularly too as they're so good for his coat. Infacare is very gentle for a bath.
I use Yumega Dog. About £10 per bottle but helped labrador Sam after being shaved for an op. I also saw in Wilkinsons about £2.99 a bottle of stuff for moulting and improving the coat and dry skin. Contains various vitamins and oil. It had "moult" in the name of it but cannot remember exactly.
Give my dog the oily fish and sardines as said and a halibut oil caps every day .

Hope your coco soon improves.Bath my dog in dove shampoo.
I use Yumega too and it may be worth while buying one bottle to get her skin back into shape. Other than that, some fish oil capsules or cod liver oil, together with feeding sardines/pilchards.

I started my female lab on Kronch Salmon Oil about 3 weeks ago. After her moult her skin was very dry.She is now looking beautiful. Her coat is so shiny people stop and ask what I feed her! Salmon Oil is packed full of Omega 3 and 6.I bought mine from Ebay.

Thank's so much to you all - I did think about giving her a cod liver oil capsule daily, after your advise I surely will. Thanks again x
hi, i had a german shepherd, and a freind that was bought up with this breed because of the long coats in some, he said a cold tea bag in the food once a week for a shiny coat, and garlic, he said he never flead his dog,and it never got fleas ,i didnt try the garlic but the tea bag gave a lovely shiny coat .
One of mine has thyroid problems and his coat was very sparse and dry, put him on Yumega and it has virtually all come back.
