The country is divided into small segments referred to in housing benefit terms as local reference areas. In each area their are figures for the Local Housing Allowance level for different sized properties. People in different circumstances (single, with children etc) are able to consider properties that are suitable and Housing Benefit/Local Housing Allowance can be paid up to the maximum reference level if they meet all the other qualifying conditions. Most councils post this info somewhere on their website. The figures change each month depending on property availability.
