very lucky this morning to see a smooth snake when I was out walking the dog.

sort of dark gun metal grey with no camouflage markings - about 15 -18" - reasonably thick for it's size - I'm in south Kent.

not at all Hugo-johnson - lived abroad for many years where there were seriously large venomous and constricting asps! remember once going with my son into the bush (he is a game ranger/guide in Africa) and we hacked our way down what I nick-named Mamba Alley ( an overgrown dried up river bed, perfect for snakies) to a den in the riverbank with an enormous female python incubating eggs. what an experience.
