Or, more generally, the MKS system (Metre Kilogram Second), as opposed to the older cgs (centimetre, gram second). Or even more opposedly to the Imperial System with its Rods, Poles or Perches.  By the way, did you know that the British railway system still measures distances in miles and chains along lines??
