Card Making

A friend of mine has asked me to show her how to make cards with her pc. Is there a program already installed on most pcs or what program would she need to buy? Think she is either XP or Vista.

Probably best to invest in buying a programme, there may be one already installed, but they're not up to much really, I had a really good one from Hallmark for XP, I now have a laptop running Vista, and it's not compatible, but sure you can find lots if you have a look around..................good luck with it!............

Such software does not come with a 'bog standard' PC but any decent DTP program will do the job. (There are also programs specifically designed for card making but you don't really need them).

Serif is an excellent software company, based in the UK. (That's actually quite important. Much of the card-making software available seems to be configured to US paper sizes. It can be difficult, or even impossible, to get some of those programs to print to A4 paper). They make older (or 'special edition') versions of many of their programs available as completely free downloads (and charge sensible prices for the latest, 'bells and whistles' versions). Version 9 of their DTP program only costs £9.99 but, even better, the 'SE' ('special edition') version is 100% free. It will do exactly what your friend wants, and loads more:

You can do all this on MS Publisher, just make your own templates.
