My neighbour has just had her 70 foot tree cutback to 5 foot. She has left all the roots in so basically the roots and tree are still alive. Will the tree continue to grow or will it die. I am worried about my foundations as the tree is only 12 foot from the house
Ideally a tree of this size that's so close to a building, should be cut back over a two year period, with a third going each time. This will allow the ground to rehydrate gradually and reduce the risk of 'heave'. Hopefully your property will be OK, its not that common an occurance and the fact that there is some tree left, will help.
