Any help, opinion or information appreciated.

An email to me this week was bounced back to sender with message 'blacklist by spamhaus.' See link below, which is not opening for me:-

http://www.spamhaus.o...ry/bl?86.46.139.160";

The content of the email was mundane, ditto the subject line.

I have no filters whatever set in my gmail account and have a current vacant capacity of 65% to receive email. My operating system is Mac 10.4

With thanks

Who is your email with (or is it your own domain)?
oh sorry, just seen it's gmail.

it seems your IP address has been blocked for spamming, reset your router and you should get a different ip address which will hopefully solve it.
OH are you using the web based mail or a mail client?

If web based then as above, if it's a mail client then also turn on SMTP authentication in your mail software.

That's not my email address.

My query is really whether that body spamhaus exists. I have never heard of them.....

My account is web based
Yes they do exist, they are one of the largest anti spam services about it just that generally only people who administer mail servers would have any need to know about them or deal with them.

I've just read your question again and realised it was a mail sent TO you that was blocked, not from you. It's not a problem your end it's a configuration problem with the senders system tell the person sending the mail to either enable SMTP authentication in their mail software or tell them to use the SMTP server for the ISP whose connection they are using
Spamhaus not only exists, but is a pretty well-respected anti-spam organisation:
http://www.spamhaus.org/

If the e-mail was TO you and bounced back to the sender, then it is the sender that has a problem.
As has been stated, Spamhaus is a respected organisation. Their services are used by many commercial organisations (including ISPs and email services) to help filter out spam.

However problems can occur when their systems identify an IP address which is sending out spam. That results in all mail from that IP address being bounced. Your ISP has a block of IP addresses, which are allocated in turn to each user as they log on. If you're allocated an IP address which has previously been used by a spammer, you'll find that all of your mail is blocked on any route protected by Spamhaus until such time as you log off and then log on again, thus getting you a new IP address.

I know that from experience because it's happened to me several times!

Hi to all.

Hugely helpful..especially these later info contributions.

Never had an issue on my own email so would not have been familiar with them.
Again, thanks
