I haven't heard it for ages but it was used in the north-east. Maybe it's an obsolete Doric word now but my friends recognised it right away- I've just phoned my 98 year-old auntie and as soon as I said gwanna bag she said "It wis a bag for hauding tatties or grain." So it must be a cheuchter word!!
