Don't mention Christmas..
48 Answers
I have been putting £1 a day in a pot towards the expense of Christmas and have now got about £240, I was very proud of this till I mentioned this to my friend, I've done better than that, she said, and showed me a wad of £20 notes hidden away in her wardrobe. I'm just interested to know how other people save up.

I start stocking up my larder with little treats for Christmas about 2 months before. I buy something extra every week. Have to hide them though or they disappear. I dont believe in buying supermarket stamps and you can only spend them there and I like to shop around
Yes Xmas can be a lonely time for some people, but it passes and life gets back to normal. I'm not religious so it does not have that kind of meaning for me, it's so commercialised now but it enables Families to get together at least once per Year.
Usually spend Xmas day alone as I don't like imposing on others who have Family priorities....

Christmas as in a celebration tends to be postponed til I get to london to see my family...I decorate the house though with a different theme most years, and bake enough for a siege, as well I need the the christmas 'smells' we have the christmas cake day chocolate day when I make truffles sort of Willie hic wonka then the mince pie day... then the day housemate prepares the food for wiegelia (the christmas eve feast... the smell of bigos and barscht makes me feel that christmas is near... it's been a bit of an anti climax over recent years...
Even with family around I get the anti-climax. I absolutely love Christmas, best time of year but I always either have to work every day but Christmas day (which doesn't leave you wanting to celebrate) or like last year was made redundant. I am hoping this Christmas and New Year will be exactly that - a new start.
