Renewable Eco-Friendly Energy
Hi...I am due to move into a bog-standard 2 bedroomed older 1930's house soon, in Leicestershire, and am wondering if anybody can advise about renewable energy?
We would like to have our energy provided by a company that we know is not f*****g up the Earth and want to 'do our bit'. We have looked into "Ecotricity" but wondered if anybody had any experiences/ideas?
I'm not talking all-out solar panels on the roof and wind turbine in my garden (yet!), but just want to feel like we're doing something good to help!
And before the sarcastic amonst you lot say, we already do recycle and walk when and where we can, thanks!
;o)

These should give you an idea of how the big boys are trying to do their bit.
One of the worst polutants is CO2 into the atmosphere but this doesn't just relate to the emissions coming from your house, its the materials you use within the house too.
Where possible (if you're doing it up) try to use recycled materials and research where they come from. Things such as concrete pumps tons of CO2 into the air just in manufacture.
Make sure your house is PROPERLY insulated. Don't skimp, go for the better stuff like Kingspan or Rockwool (both trade names).
Also make sure you're windows and frames are bang up to date. Technology has changed a lot over the past 5 years so you'd be surprised how quickly windows can outdate.
I'd also look at this

Its called a grey water system where you can re-use your bath / shower water to flush the toilet. It's also possible to recycle rainwater for your dishwasher. Google this and you'll find some info.
I know this is long but hope it helps.
This I shall enter for an award by Powergen who are offering grants and expert assistance to people who come up with such ideas.
They have a site specifically committed for this purpose (powergen-energylab.co.uk), where you can see what a serious effort they are making to develop/offer eco-friendly energy.
Hence, you will be helping the cause by joining Powergen - who in fact offer very good customer service, competitive prices and deals.
