Ed - in view of comments about the banality of questions in Chatterbank, has any consideration been given to including a chatroom or 2 in CB? A lot of the everyday chitchat might go into there instead, and there would be no need to store anything other than caching the last few minutes worth of contributions.
If you take ICQ as a model then siderooms could be used within them for private dialogue/messages between individual ABers.
Or would this make AB too much of a social site rather than a Q&A site?
that;'s where all the seriously dangerous grooming could go on and members would start to disapear as they were picked off by the serial killers ..........I know I read the wrong books lol
It's a suggestion for an enhancement to the site, an addition to CB not a replacement for it.
A chatroom would provide the opportunity for a live chat between CBers rather than having to wait for a reply to a posting - a lot of the threads in CB end up like a conversation between a small number of the regulars and a chatroom would provide a much responsive interface for them.
Because I drop in and out, I often like to look in the history of CB to see what's been going on, that's what I would miss if the chat were only briefly recorded. I'm not keen on live chat, I like to see what's been said!
Ed..it would be good sometimes as threads can lose their way becuse they get overtaken by side issues...Can Redman and I have one all for ourselves....password protected to avoid shocking the innocent
