1998 Renault Megane

My 1998 1.6 RXE has recently started to have starting problems which results in a noisy exhaust and loss of power if i drive off, the tick over speed is very low ie less than 500rpm. On other occasions all is fine with no noisy exhaust and normal use. Help

Sounds like your fuel injectors are dirty, try one of the fuel injector additives that clean them. Once the engin is up to running temperature these symptoms almost always go away.
A full service may also help as the engine is not exactly new and your Air Filter may be causing this.

Thanks for your help, today I had the same problem after about 12 miles, I then removed one coil for about 15 mins to cool down, re- connected the ignition lead and strapped the complete unit to the cross member, car started ok without any noise or loss of power. Went for a twenty mile run without any problems, i'll buy a coil and pray that's it.
