Feeling a bit miffed this evening!!!! :( :(
Tearing my hair out in frustration trying to fix the problem with out SKY dish for our main telly!!!!
We had a bit of a problem with it yesterday following some torrential downpour of rain!!!!!
The tv screen went a little shaky, then froze,so I unplugged it at the mains as was suggested on the tv screen for 5 minutes. Then plugged it back in,then didn't do anything...typical!!
So i tried again, and still nothing.....tried again....came back for a bit then the screen froze up again.

Today,we didn't have any rain, yet when we came back in the evening after a day out at my cousins,I switched it on......NO SATELLITE SIGNAL being received!! Pah!!
Spent and wasted all the evening trying to figure it out.I even phoned SKY customer services, and I asked the nice foreign lady where she was calling from.......India she replied...
What the.....!!!!!
INDIA.....whhhhaaat??? I wanted expert help from someone in the UK dammit!!!
Not from a dam call centre in India.Geeez!! Why do so many companies rely on these stupid call centres?? Grrrrrrr.....
So I went online and Googled to see how other people fixed the problem.
I did follow some tips and advice on how to get it back to work.......but still no luck!!
I hate to part with extra cash to fix this annoying problem.

So,tomorrow I might have to jiggle a bit more with the dish outside.I did move it a bit earlier....but no luck!! Ho hum......just have to use my FREEVIEW digibox in my own bedroom thats all!! Pah!

If anyone replies to my thread, please try not to come up with anything too technical.....thank you!!

Must say ha I have had all Sky packages for 2 and half years absolutely no problemexcept once when I Had exactly same as you imhotep

One thing I did learn is that once you take mains out it can take one helluva time for the box to reboot. For me it was 10-15 minutes. And I had to reset the whole box wich meant switch off - reboot - load software again - switch off -...

You could well be right there chrissa.
Maybe I need a little more patience with the awful weather that we have experienced perhaps!! We've had some nasty downpours of rain recently in South Wales!!
Supposed to be summer.....huh!!

Maybe, just maybe some rain has trickled into the dish somehow!!!
I've even cut back the tall side hedge as much as I can. Seems like there is very little of the hedge blocking the dish now.....but now that I have clipped it back even more....still no signal.
Just wait and hope that tomorrow is a fine day, so I can take another look at it.
(sigh)
I went on Ebay and bought"Ultimate Sky Guide" for 99p. Tells you how to fix everything concerning Sky,best 99p. I ever spent.
I'm sure it's not the water that's the problem. It's the atmospheric stuff (electrical whatsits) that is stopping or muddling up the signal. I'm not technical but during a real downpour with thunder etc, even my laptop's router signal was affected.
we had a problem with no signal getting through and it was the trees outside blocking the signal....it was worst in windy weather or when the tree leaves were full grown

One thing I did learn is that once you take mains out it can take one helluva time for the box to reboot. For me it was 10-15 minutes. And I had to reset the whole box wich meant switch off - reboot - load software again - switch off - reboot. Took best part of 45 minutes.

Not sure if its on all but after switching on again do NOT try to switch box on until you see the circular display on the front 'spin' for about half a second. So look at that constantly or you'll miss it. Or wait 15 minutes at least.

Didn't quite understand what you meant when you said "gotta sy tho"
What is "sy"?
No matter.....well, there are tv programmes on Sky that I watch curly.
Plus, there is a matter of bank information payments which is a bit of a problem for us.
My oldest brothers are executors of the will of my father who passed away a while ago, is looking into the bank paperwork and accounts for me and my mother at the moment, and as most of the bills are being paid from one of my fathers accounts, it is a bit complicated about changing over!! My father didn't quite finish sorting all of his accounts and stuff....so it's just a matter of waiting!!

Thank you Everhelpful about that "Ultimate Sky Guide". I'm tempted to get that!! Cheers!! You are always everhelpful....excuse the pun there!! :)

Oooh, many thanks puternut for that advice!! Before I go to bed, i will switch it off entirely and leave it overnight. Then I will attempt to switch it back on tomorrow, and hope my luck is in then. Many thanks....I will heed your advice.
You're a star!! =D
Eh?????
Question Author
Aaah, wait a minute puternut!! I hope you are still around my friend
I've a bit of a problem with your advice though. When you mentioned switching on the box until I see the circular display......errm what display??
The Sky digibox we have is a Panasonic, and that's all it is!!!!
We don't have Sky+ at all.Just the Basic needs here I'm afraid. For recording we just use the video recorder underneath. We are bit antiquated in our home.
As you know,we can only record what is on one channel for the time being, until we find a better telly. We are using an old Mitsubishi tv with just an RF aerial socket.
It has no SCART connector at the back!!
But it has dam fine good reception though!!
Told you we are antiquated!! :)
'' Told you we are antiquated!! ''

Sounds like it and you can call sky in the day to chat to somebody in the UK.

And don't move your dish, it will cost you when sky come out, they will know you have moved it, even only a few degrees.
India... yet when we in Ireland call we get through to Scotland

Don't worry trt.
I've put it back in more or less in it's original position.Might be out by just a tiny fraction.
It's back in working order now.The signal quality and strength bar is about three quarters of the way up now.I've even cut back the side hedge a bit further!!!
Why they positioned our dish on the side of the house so near to the flipping hedge I really don't know!!!!! Dimwits......
But, whenever we have a sudden downpour of heavy rain, or very gusty winds our tv screen does break up a bit and sometimes freezes up.Just have to be patient and wait for the weather to get better......sigh!!
