Why not go to your local department store and ask for some free samples of brands like clinique/estee lauder etc... I usually then keep these for special occasions/nights out etc...
A foundation i find quite good fr day to day wear is Bourjois "en toute legerete" its oil free and got sun screen and looks natural too but i think its about 10-12 pounds...but well worth it.

I often use Rimmel products they are cheap but very good and their foundation is ok. The best foundation I find is Estee Lauder but its very expensive, but lasts a long time. What I do now is keep that for special occasions and for ordinary daywear instead of foundation have changed to a tinted moisturiser (i.e. Nivea) and in the summer I add to it a drop of one of those instant tan things like Boots sunshimmer and it gives you a nice glow. If you get tanned you can just add a bit more or less to alter the colour. If you put it on with a damp cosmetic sponge it looks just as good as foundation.
