How much is my Hockney original?

I kept a David Hockney "original" from the late 80s that he'd created and publishing directly using the printing presses of the Telegraph & Argus. Thousands of these were printed, but is it worth anything today?

Can you give a bit more information aboput the piece? Do you know how many were printed?

The Hockney "original" was part of a supplement in a whole print run of that day's Telegraph & Argus in his home town of Bradford. In other words, something like 60,000 were printed. No doubt there are still quite a few in existence!

According to the Telegraph and Argus, they never get any requests for or even inquiries about them, though they do have framed one in their offices. So, you're probably right, they're worth nothing yet - though in a few decades time they might be. If a copy were signed by Hockney that would be a different matter, of course.

I was kicking myself a few years ago when, as a journalist in Bradford, I interviewed Hockney during an exhibition of his at the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television. I was determined to ask him to pen a small drawing on my notepad and then sign it, but in the end time ran out and he dashed off before I could even say thanks. Had he signed it, maybe that would have been worth something by now too!
