Windows media player and DVDs

I have some film trailers in MPEG format that I'd like to view on a proper TV. Can these be burned onto any form of disk that a home DVD player can read and play? If so, what specifications should I look for on the writer and the player before I buy them?

You'll want a DVD burner in your PC that's compatible with the DVD+R format. You will have to write it to the disc as an MPEG though. Also, bear in mind that the DVD recordable can be very expensive and, whilst they will work on standard home DVD players, compatability is only guaranteed with players bought in the last year or so. There are other DVD writing formats out there though. These are DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW. The latter are re-writable versions of the former, although these generally are not compatible with stnadrd DVD players.

Many dvd players will play vcds, which can be burnt using an ordinary burner if you don't have a DVD burner. The mpegs may need recoding to work and there are articles on how to do it all on this site: www.vcdhelp.com
