Trojan Horses

Can anyone give me some advice on getting rid of these. I have AVG 6.0 (free version) and it has picked up two Trojan Horse Dialers but cannot remove them. I don't know much about PCs and am worried what these are doing. I have looked at antivirus download sites but am not sure what to download and try. I'm using 'Windows me' and am looking for something free if at all possible. Thanks.

If you can identify the Trojan then go to http://www.symantec.com and download the virus "fixers". Follow the instructions carefully (it may involve uninstalling you antivirus, running the patch in safe mode etc etc) and if God is smiling on you, you may be rid of it. I had a nasty one and the only way I fixed it was to reinstall the OS! AGV is pretty good and there is another cleaner called The Cleaner by Moosoft which was recommended in a recent post. Thanks for the advice, it's been really helpful so far. I have run The Cleaner and have found eight versions of the BDE Trojan on my system. The program gives me three choices: Remove file and clean registry; Create Backup and clean registry; Just report. I chose just report but want to get rid of them. What would creating a backup involve and is it safe to just remove file and clean? I'd really appreciate an answer if someone can put up with such a PC-illiterate fool ! Thanks again.

I am not too familiar with the bde trojan but a brief search tells me that it hides itself in the restore point. Windows ME allows you to create restoration points which benefits these types of trojans see: http://www.computing.net/security/wwwboard/forum/2
609.html An infected file is a useless file so I would go with the delete then registry clean. Backing up an infected file seems to be of little use. However, make a note of the files that are infected in case you have to replace them with a clean copy (often you can search the net or retrive them from the Windows .cab files). Don't put yourself down: People aren't born with this information, I am sad enought to deal with this stuff every day!

Thanks again for the help, and the vote of confidnece, I really appreciate it. I'm sure I'll understand it all one day. I found out the trojan is linked to Kazza, which is used on this PC. I guess that's what you get for trying to get something for nothing!
