Good morning you clever ABers. My fridge-freezer has seriously misbehaved:- yesterday the fridge was ever so warm and cosy whilst the freezer bit went into quadruple overdrive, resembling a solid slab of ice. The motor was still singing away. Is this a case of R.I.P? I had a foolish hope that if I switched it off, defrosted completely, and switched on again, it might somehow correct itself.......no. Any ideas please?

How old is your Fridge/Freezer lucca ?
It might just be a Thermostat problem and would need replacing

Can't quite remember, Redman, but I'd guess 7 or 8 years old. If it is thermostat, are you clever enough to know how to fix it/buy? Can you pop around to do it?! I make very good cheese straws and have just made blackcurrant jam in order to rescue fruit!
If I had the parts to do it I would help you out especially with cheese straws and Blackcurrant Jam on offer.
Speak to a reputable Service Engineer, preferably one who has no call-out charges.
Lokk at the Ads in your local paper and enquire of your friends and neighbours for a recommended Engineer !!
New thermostat isnt that expensive....our last one was £80 including fitting do not try tempting my man with cheese straws.... or I will curse your washing machine as well
Ha Ha Ha !! The Fruits of LOVE are for you alone my dearest Evey !! xx

Look, I'm already hot and bothered, especially with my warm fridge. Might do you a fry=up in it, Redman! (Thanks for your advice, though). Do you think 8ish years old is ancient for a ff these days? By the way, RW, I know a spell or two as well!
definitely 8yrs is not old for a Fridge/Freezer especially if it is a reputable make. Good luck in finding a good Engineer !!
8 years is pretty old these days built in obsolescence means most major applances have a 5 to 6 year expected span so actually if you replace the thermostat and get another couple of years out of it you will be doing really well...
If it was me, I think I'd get a new one...frost free....
Don't know the environmental effects of frost-freeness, but it has certainly removed one of my least-liked (most hated) jobs.

It's going to cost you for a call out before you even start in on getting it fixed....
Sorry to argue with you honey... getting tired I think
Had a LEC Fridge/Freezer for 15 years and sold it for £40. two years later it was sold on again in good working order for the same amount......
..rarely have anything survive that long..... although more hopeful about current F/ F as it is one of those big double door american style ones and it starts out with a 5 year guarantee

Plenty of room to hide housemates body while I make my escape
You are a darling, that's why I love you !! xx
Mutual honey...and no one has noticed we're here...SSSShhhhhhxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx sorry Lucca for hijacking your thread.... but the chance to get few mushy posts in is too good to miss

Now just you look here, RW, I've noticed you're here! Have just made another batch of jam and it's bl^^dy good. Scones will be served, Redman. Seriously, thanks to everyone for your opinions - reluctantly I think RW is correct about the built-in kna^^eredness. Am checking about bods' call-outs etc. We shall see.
