I'm curious why K always gives a link. Puzzlers need only bookmark the 'The Spectator SmartEdition' website and wait until the new edition is published each week. The usually helpful 'Crossword Buddy' was caught out by a word or two this week...
Thanks for link K

Bootlebarth are you saying that there are a couple of words wrong in the puzzle?
If so can you please elaborate so I don't waste my time?
thanks
Thanks for the links, K and whatsthat
Many thanks for the PDF, whatsthat.

@toalisi: No, I don't think there is anything wrong in 1976.

Re. "butanes" in 1973: Is "butane" really a countable noun? I would have thought not. What do other ABers (chemists especially) think?

Hi toalisi

I too could not see anything wrong with the crossword which was straightforward.

I'm not sure what Bootlebarth's 'crossword buddy' refers to and maybe he will explain it to us?
Forgive my thickness. For 10 I have -o-l and my answer has more to do with a vote than a cast. Any cluettes, please?
I think you have the right answer as you cast the thing you are talking about
You've convinced me; thanks.
Hi

Did you put riant in for 5d
Reply to K. 'Crossword Buddy' is on www.loquax.co.uk. It's one of many free sites that gives words fitting a sequence of known and unknown letters. Much faster than thumbing through a dictionary. It has lots of words absent from Chambers but also lacks some therein, such as 38a and 34d.
Thanks for the links K & whatsthat. Yes I have riant for the laughing clue
