Debt Relief Order
If you apply for a Debt Relief Order, and it is granted, are there any restrictions on becoming or remaining a Town Councillor?

The Local Government Act 1972 only bars a person from public office with a local authority is he/she "is the subject of a bankruptcy restrictions order or interim order". The Act makes no reference to DROs.

The Insolvency Act 1986 bars a person "in respect of whom a bankruptcy restrictions order or a debt relief restrictions order has effect" from being an MP or from sitting or voting in the House of Lords (or from participating in the work of Parliamentary Committees) but makes no reference to any restrictions relating to local authorities.

trt. The reason that I posted the question, was because the Councillor in question came to me and asked about her position as regards being/remaining a Councillor. Therefore I Know and at some point will have to inform the Town Clerk and other Councillors.
