If you shoot a bullet due South (in the Northern Hemisphere) it lands amost to the South of you, as you would expect, but, because the Earth is spinning, it can land slightly to the West of the line which extends due South. This is the Coriollis effect and it is caused by the bullet falling slightly behind the rotation of the Earth while it is higher than the gun which fired it. Conservation of angular momentum gives the explanation.
