Towing in lane 3
4 Answers
There was a caravanning question here this morning that has disappeared now, but it has left me thinking.
In it, Chris Buenchico answered with a link to a caravanning website. That stated that vehicles with trailers could not enter the right lane of a motorway or dual carriageway which has three or more lanes.
I can find reference to this for motorways in the highway code (rule265), but not dual carriageways.
Can anyone confirm or deny that this rule also applies to non motorway class roads?

It is against the law to tow anything and drive in the 3rd lane. BUT, of course he would be able to use the 2nd lane to overtake, for example on a dual carrigeway.
Even if there is a hold up and a lorry/coach/caravan in the 3rd lane can still be prosecuted - even if the vehicle was staionary at the time! They must NOT use the 3rd lane unless directed by highway signs or by a police officier.
