How about this my friend's daughter had a baby boy on Saturday there - she had it at 9.00am and they let her out at 4.00pm. No choice - no beds no staff to cope - this RVH in Belfast.

That's quite normal now. With my youngest I told them I'd be leaving as soon as he's born.

if I have another one I don't think I'd bother with the hospital at all...

Ouch, the poor love!

They told my daughter they'd have no beds for her when they give her the date she'd to be induced, however luckily by the time my grandson decided to come, there were some and she got to stay for the standard overnight.

In the 60s and early 70s mothers were paid to have home births.
If mother and baby are well, no need to be hospitilised.

Hc4361 is right connemmara, they would rather you had your baby at home, if you had all the facilities i.e bathroom and toilet. The GPs were only concerned about special cases very tall women or very small women,obese or older women or those that had a history or problem births. It was supposed that healthy young mothers would be all right with a midwife and a district nurse to visit them.
