For Boxtops:
The meteors will appear to be coming from the east but, depending upon where they hit the Earth's atmosphere (and start to burn up) they could actually appear anywhere in the sky:

I remember the first time I saw it about 15 years ago. I went see friends in the country, so it was really dark - no light pollution at all - and a group of us lay on a blanket in a field and saw the most amazing shooting stars ever. Breathtaking!
The simple answer to that question is, Micmak, is "when it's dark"!
The meteor shower lasts for several days, peaking around the 12th and the 13th. They'll be burning up in the atmosphere throughout all of that time but, because of the brightness of the sun, they'll only be visible during darkness (and, of course, when there's very little cloud cover).
just watched the weather forecast and in my area - Kent/East Sussex - lots of cloud about - in fact the cheerful weather girl commented that yesterday was probably the best bet to watch this event! Gee thanks for that .
