11 year old german shepherd

Can anyone please offer me some advice.
My son's german shepherd who is still very active has started to go upstairs and get into the bath! Theyve got a stairgate and have put a large cupboard box behind it but she has pushing out a couple the spindles of the landing staircase to get through.

Shes never done anything like this before. My son and his wife are expecting their first baby in November.

Can anyone please help

Our old GS/ Lurcher cross did this for 2/3 years before we lost her, she used to scrabble in the bath and in the corner of the kitchen as if she was making a nest. Never found out why but it kept her nails nice and short!
